Power point, socket and switch installation for homes, offices and commercial properties
POWER POINT, SOCKET & SWITCH SERVICES
Power points and switches planned around everyday use
Additional sockets and better-positioned switches can make a room easier to use, but the installation has to suit the existing circuit and the equipment that will be connected. We install, replace and relocate power points, socket outlets and switches for HDB flats, condominiums, landed homes, offices and commercial premises in Singapore.
Before recommending a route or point type, we ask how the space will be used. A bedside charging point, television wall, kitchen appliance, workstation cluster and outdoor socket each create different requirements. The proposed work may use an existing circuit or require new wiring from the distribution board, depending on load, distance, access and the condition of the installation.
New points, replacements and relocations
Our scope can include new single or double socket outlets, replacement of cracked or loose points, relocation around new furniture, light-switch replacement and dedicated points for suitable appliances. We can also assess USB-equipped outlets and switches used with compatible dimmers or smart controls. The final product choice should match the intended load and installation environment.
When a socket or switch needs attention
Stop using a point if it feels unusually warm, produces a burning smell, sparks repeatedly, has scorch marks, makes a buzzing sound or no longer holds a plug securely. A damaged faceplate may be visible, but the underlying cause can include a loose connection, heat-damaged conductor, moisture, mechanical wear or an overloaded circuit. Replacing the cover alone does not correct an internal fault.
Intermittent switches and flickering lights also deserve assessment, especially when several fittings on the same circuit are affected. Note when the problem occurs and what equipment was operating at the time. This helps distinguish a local point failure from a broader wiring issue or a problem at the distribution board.
Safe steps before an appointment
Unplug portable equipment from a damaged socket if it is safe to do so and leave the point unused. Do not remove the faceplate, tighten internal terminals or test exposed conductors. If there is smoke, heat, water ingress or active sparking, keep people away and arrange urgent assistance through our emergency electrician service.
Choosing the right point for the location
A standard socket is not appropriate for every appliance or environment. Higher-load equipment may require a dedicated circuit, isolator or another connection method specified by the manufacturer. Kitchens, service yards, bathrooms and outdoor areas also need careful placement because heat, moisture and water exposure affect suitability.
For a new point, we check the proposed appliance load, nearby circuits, earthing, cable route and mounting surface. Surface trunking may be practical where concealment is not possible or would disturb finishes. Concealed work needs coordination with renovation trades before walls and ceilings are closed. In offices, the layout should also account for workstation quantity, pantry equipment and future changes instead of relying on multi-way adaptors.
Switches, dimmers and smart controls
Replacement switches must be compatible with the connected fitting and circuit. Dimmers require compatible lamps and drivers, while some smart switches need a neutral conductor or sufficient space in the mounting box. We assess the existing wiring before confirming whether the selected control can be fitted without additional work.

Power point work during an HDB renovation
Adding or moving points in an HDB flat can involve fixed wiring, circuit changes and testing. The route may also be affected by restrictions on embedding wiring in structural elements or wet areas. Homeowners and renovation contractors should review the HDB guidelines for electrical works before finalising the layout.
The Energy Market Authority explains that additions, extensions and replacements of electrical power points, switches and lighting points should be carried out or supervised by a Licensed Electrical Worker. Its consumer guide to engaging Licensed Electrical Workers also explains how the appropriate licence class depends on the installation.
Information needed for a useful quotation
Send the number and type of points required, photographs of the proposed locations, the property type and details of the equipment to be connected. For relocation work, include photographs showing the existing point and intended new position. A site inspection may still be needed where the cable route, circuit capacity or wall construction cannot be confirmed from photographs.
Our installation process
1. Review the requirement
We clarify the point locations, connected loads, preferred finish and whether the work is part of a wider renovation. Where several points are involved, a marked floor plan helps prevent omissions.
2. Inspect the existing installation
The electrician checks the available circuit, distribution-board arrangement, wiring condition and proposed cable route. Any need for a new circuit or related repair is explained before work proceeds.
3. Install and make secure
The point or switch is mounted, wired and finished using a method appropriate for the location. Existing finishes are protected as far as practical, and surface routes are discussed before installation.
4. Test and hand over
Completed work is checked for correct operation and relevant electrical safety conditions. We identify the affected circuit and explain any operating or load limitations that the user should know.

What affects the installation scope and quotation?
The cost and duration depend on more than the number of faceplates. We consider whether wiring can extend from a suitable circuit, the length and accessibility of the route, the mounting surface, the need for surface trunking or concealed work, and whether existing cables or boxes need repair. An occupied, furnished room may also require more protection and access planning than an empty renovation site.
Tell us about every appliance intended for the new point. A lamp or phone charger creates a different demand from cooking, heating, laundry or workshop equipment. Where equipment needs a dedicated circuit or isolator, we will explain this rather than connect it to a convenient general-purpose socket. Product supply, drilling, access equipment and making good should be confirmed in the quotation so responsibilities are clear.
Good point placement reduces everyday hazards
Useful placement helps keep leads away from walkways, sinks, heat sources, moving furniture and areas where plugs can be crushed. Allow space for bulky adaptors and right-angle plugs, and consider how doors, drawers and bedheads will move. In a home office, several well-positioned points are generally more practical than permanently loading one extension strip. For families, compatible shuttered outlets and sensible placement can complement—not replace—normal child-safety supervision.
After installation, avoid exceeding the socket or circuit capacity and check plugs and leads for damage. Do not daisy-chain extension boards. If a newly connected appliance causes repeated trips, stop using it and arrange an assessment; the trip may indicate an appliance fault, circuit overload or leakage rather than a problem with the new faceplate.
Can you add a power point where none exists? Yes, subject to the available circuit, load and a suitable cable route. We assess whether the point can extend from an existing circuit or needs new wiring from the distribution board. Do you replace burnt or loose sockets? Yes. We inspect the point and surrounding wiring first, because heat damage or looseness can extend beyond the visible faceplate. Can you relocate sockets during a renovation? Yes. We can plan relocations around furniture and appliances, subject to the property’s wiring routes, finishes and applicable renovation requirements. Do you install USB sockets or smart switches? We can assess compatible USB outlets, dimmers and smart switches. Product suitability depends on the load, wiring arrangement and mounting space. Should I stop using a socket that feels warm? Yes. Unplug equipment if safe, leave the point unused and arrange an inspection. Do not remove the faceplate or touch internal wiring.Frequently Asked Questions
